Indelible Marks
Evidence of Bosnia past.
On Mostar’s western side, the former Ljubljanska bank building imposes itself on the city as an indelible reminder of the region’s recent past. Known since the 1990s as ‘Sniper Tower’, this hollow shell once hosted Croat marksmen whose vantage point in the tower allowed them an unobstructed view of the city’s eastern side and ultimately its Bosniak inhabitants.
Outside, the brutal, pockmarked monolith stands as lonely hostage to time and decay. Inside, sunlight streams in through its open sides - graffiti of various standards covers almost every surface, punctuated by open stairwells, plunging lift shafts and standing water.
